Most babies first start teething between approximately 4-7 months old. The teething process involves your little one being restless, irritated and more upset than usual.
The teething process can be painful for your baby, and not very pleasant for mum to experience either, as you can feel helpless when witnessing the discomfort of your baby. Teething, however, is a natural phase that every baby goes through that doesn’t have to be as tough as it seems. Knowing the signs and what to look out for can help tremendously in comforting and guiding your little one through the teething process.
All babies are unique and their teething experiences differ. Some babies have teeth that come out one at a time, while in some cases, multiple teeth can grow out at once. Signs also differ for each individual baby, but the most common ones include:
· Sleeping trouble
· Swollen gums
· Chewing behaviour
· Irritability and restlessness
· Refusing to eat
Although there isn’t much you can or would want to do from teeth naturally coming out – you could smoothen the process a little bit:
To temporarily ease the pain, rub a gentle, clean finger over your baby’s gums.
Provide your little one with a teething ring to chew on. Chill it in the fridge for a little while to ease some of the irritability. If your young one is old enough to eat solid foods, cold snacks can also help relief sore gums, like apple sauce or yoghurt.
